The private equity landscape has evolved significantly in recent years. The market has become more competitive. There are more firms and capital out there, which has partly made sourcing quality targets harder.
Though exit volumes are up year-over-year, the pace remains sluggish, especially relative to the backlog, and holding periods continue to rise. Value creation has become tougher, the tailwinds from multiple expansion have diminished, and growth is anemic. Fundraising is also challenging, though capital is flowing to firms that can demonstrate outperformance.
Against this backdrop are external uncertainties from macroeconomic and geopolitical shocks. We appear to be entering a new era in private equity, one that requires both innovation and a return back to fundamentals.
Join our Co-Founder & Co-CEO Nicola Ebmeyer, alongside Rutger Vos, Partner at 3i Group, as they discuss how the PE landscape has evolved over the last few decades, and what it will take to thrive and have an edge in the future. Among other topics, they'll discuss:
How is the rise of permanent capital reshaping traditional PE fundraising cycles?
Many investors have started specializing. Will capital increasingly flow to these investors?
Will traditional PE sectors such as Consumer, Energy, Materials and Industrials make a comeback?
In this new world, what does it take to source deals well, create value and return capital?
